Norm Helsel To All Instructors
Looking for a teacher who brings heart, experience, and genuine joy to the homeschooling journey? Meet Norm—a devoted husband since 1983, proud father of four, and enthusiastic grandfather to ten energetic grandkids. After raising their own children in the public school system, Norm and his wife, Karyn, experienced the frustration many parents feel—especially while navigating the system with a special needs child. Watching their grandchildren thrive through homeschooling reignited their passion and inspired them to pour their time, energy, and love into helping other families succeed on this incredible path.
Norm has dreamed for decades of teaching kids in a way that draws out their full, God-given potential—and now, that dream is a reality. His heart for children has been evident for years through his decades of ministry, where he’s served everyone from toddlers to teens. Whether counseling foster kids at Camp Alandale or mentoring those overcoming addiction through his church, Norm brings compassion, wisdom, and a contagious enthusiasm for life and learning to every child he meets.
His teaching style is warm, engaging, and rooted in purpose that can have real life application—your kids won’t just learn, they’ll grow. Outside the classroom, Norm and Karyn embrace a rich, hands-on life at their San Marcos home Echo Ranch, where they garden, care for horses, run small businesses, and enjoy camping and fishing with their growing family. With roots in San Diego’s North County dating back to 1849, they are deeply committed to their community. If you’re seeking a teacher who combines real-life experience, deep faith, and a joyful, engaging approach to homeschooling—Norm’s class is where your child belongs!
