I am very excited to get to know your children! A little bit about me - I grew up in northern California, moved to the San Diego area for college, and stayed! In my free time I love to draw and paint, make beaded jewelry, create/paint detailed nail designs, and explore the outdoors! I enjoy anything that gets my creative juices flowing.

My personality is bubbly and fun, which translates very well when helping to foster my students’ love for learning. My teaching style is described as a “warm demander”. This means that I have high expectations for all students, create a structured learning environment, and encourage the development of independent learners, all while maintaining a kind and caring demeanor.

I have been teaching students for over 6 years, and hold two California Teaching Credentials. I love to make learning fun and approachable/accessible to all. In my class, your children will feel valued, supported, welcome, and most importantly…respected!

I am currently a part of the Creative STEM and Arts team, and have been working with Legacy students over the last semester. In Fall 2024 I will be teaching some math, reading, and science classes as well! I look forward to getting to know any students I have not worked with here on campus before, as well as seeing friendly faces again! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to help your kiddos grow!

(My California Teaching Credentials include: K-8 Multiple Subject with an English Language Learner Authorization, Education Specialist Mild/Moderate Support Needs (MMSN))

Courtney Arnold

Hello friends! I'm looking forward to teaching your children. A little about me - I am 18 years married to a brilliant and adventurous husband named Juddy.  Our girls are Reese - 15 and Ensley Hope - 7. Both of our girls have been in a homeschool charter or homeschool hybrid for the last seven years. The shift to more of a homeschool model has been a gift to our family and I see the fruit year after year!

I graduated from the University of Florida with degrees in Hospitality Management as well as Travel and Tourism.  I spent seventeen years running my own event planning company producing events + high end weddings all over the country. I became a jack of all trades in this industry and it has suited our pivot to a homeschool model very well!  For the last couple of years I've been in the classroom two days per week teaching Cooking for Kids, Crazy Science Lab, Spectacular Science as well as subbing in anything from Pottery to Kindergarten, Stories Come Alive to Dance.  I use a hands-on, tactile approach to all of my classes so children have the chance to move out of their seats and try new things.  We laugh together, we work together and we learn together.  When I'm not in the classroom, I'm a Group Fitness Coach as well as a Wellness Advocate for Green Compass. At home we spend time in the kitchen together baking as well as lots of time outside at the beach, long walks, riding dirt bikes at the track and attending soccer/track meets for our girls.

Christina Barber

Hola. My name is Christina.  I was born and raised in Los Angeles, but have been living in North San Diego County for 16 years now.

I have been in the teaching profession for a long time. I received a bachelor’s degree in Child Development in 1992 at CSU Fullerton and then went on to obtain a bilingual (Spanish) teaching credential the following year. I spent 11 years teaching in public school system.  I was a bilingual elementary educator in classrooms in the Southern California area before deciding to stay home and homeschool my son Kanin. While homeschooling, I started my private teaching business called ‘Fun with Spanish.’ For 12 years now, I worked with

different homeschool groups/co-ops throughout North County San Diego.

My passion for the Spanish language began in high school with my

first class. Studying and using the language for all these years has enriched my life in so many ways.  And it will for your children as well!

The overall objectives of my Spanish program is developing listening and speaking proficiency as well as learning the locations and cultural traditions of various Spanish-speaking countries.

When I’m not teaching, I enjoy traveling, spending time with family and friends, cooking, reading, gardening, serving in the youth ministry at my church, exercising, taking leisurely walks on the beach and watching sunsets.

I look forward to having a wonderful school year getting to know my students and helping them to love the Spanish language!

Keris Binder

Hi! I'm Keris, long time child educator with a passion for child-led learning! In my classroom, you’ll find students engaged in super interesting, thematic based units filled with opportunities for hands-on learning. You’ll see children having thoughtful discussions, asking critical questions, and working in pairs and small groups to create and problem solve. And, most importantly, in my classroom, you’ll see a room full of children who feel connected, important and valued; a room of children who feel seen, heard and loved by their teacher. Because that space is where great learning happens. ?? On a personal note, I live in La Costa with my husband, three kids and our rescue pup. ?? I’ve been homeschooling my kids since 2020 and loving the freedom, flexibility, and community that homeschool life has brought us!

Paige Bombacie

Hey, Hi, Welcome to my writing classes!

I'm Paige Bombacie, your enthusiastic writing teacher and mentor. As a seasoned educator with over 13 years of coaching experience, I've had the pleasure of witnessing countless students blossom into successful and confident writers.

I understand the struggles of expressing thoughts and ideas firsthand, and that's why I'm passionate about guiding every student toward becoming a quality writer. Through practice and the right tools, I've seen my methods work wonders for students across the spectrum – from those with learning difficulties to gifted wordsmiths.

My classes are all about high energy, encouragement, and proven methods. I pride myself on creating an environment where even the most dedicated writing haters are won over. I believe in pushing students to achieve their personal best while imparting not just writing skills, but foundational life skills like following directions and taking ownership of their work.

Beyond my role as a writing coach, I bring over 20 years of expertise in youth counseling and mentorship to the table. Armed with a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from the University of Washington, my focus on education, social, and cultural change equips me to guide students through challenging discussions with objectivity and respect.

As a certified IEW Instructor, I bring a wealth of knowledge to the writing table. And in case you're wondering, I've been a homeschool Momma for the past 15 years – a unique perspective that adds a personal touch to my teaching approach. So, buckle up for an exciting writing journey where we not only craft words but also build skills that last a lifetime.

Kidokinetics Brady Boyd

Kidokinetics empowers kids to play confident by providing a fun introduction to sports. Each class has what we call the F.U.N. Factor – meaning it’s Fundamental, Understandable, & Noncompetitive.  SportsPlay is a fun introduction to sports designed to help kids get moving and build confidence! Every week features a warm up, an introduction to a new sport or activity, free play, cool down, and an age-appropriate anatomy and physiology lesson. Your child will get to experience a variety of sports – many of which they may have tried before like basketball, soccer, baseball, etc, and some that they haven't, like field hockey, rugby, and lacrosse. Our approach is to break sports down into simple practice-techniques that they can do even at home. Every child will have their own set of equipment, which eliminates any sitting-and-waiting, compared to other sport programs.

Kyler Crawford

Hi my name is Kyler Crawford. One of my biggest passions in life is pouring into our next generation and helping develop them into becoming who God has called them into being. One way I do this is getting our youth happier and healthier. It is harder to impact others around us in a positive way if we are unhappy and unhealthy. I have been a junior high leader at our church for over 5 years helping run summer camps, after school events and of course youth church services every week. I was in the United States Navy for 5 years and was my commands physical fitness leader. I learned skills in the military to become more active and more healthy. I am passionate about fitness as I am continuing my education at Palomar College this semester to become a guiding light to getting us healthier and happier. I am looking forward to partnering with you, as the parent, to pour into your child to enjoy being active to where they will grow up to continue their physical fitness journey. We will be getting creative on different ways to teach an active healthy lifestyle and will be using our general motor skills ie; hand eye coordination, balance, mobility and using functional fitness to obtain a healthier lifestyle.

Jennifer Cunningham

Jenny Cunningham is delighted to have the opportunity to encourage and teach your sweet children. She is a blessed mama of four beautiful children, and is happily married to the love of her life, Miles, and of course, loves Jesus. She grew up in an extra large family and was home schooled her whole life. Learning was not easy for Jenny using traditional methods and she had to search out her strengths and learning styles, giving her a depth of insight to creatively and intuitively teach holistically.  She boldly stepped out to homeschool her own children and loves to teach through play, discovery, life, songs and games.

With teaparties on the coffee table, lizzards in plastic cages and something always baking in the oven, Jenny's house is full of family, learning and laughter.

BEGINNER SEWING CLASS

This beginner sewing class is for kids with little or no experience. In the class students will have tons of fun while learning this life skill. They will gain confidence through sewing craft projects like a felt doll, pencil case, seasonal themed crafts items, and pillow just to name a few. During these tasks the students will be measuring, cutting, sewing to a quarter inch, using color theory and expressing their creativity. For the first projects they will be learning to hand sew and using different types of stitches to complete the projects. The class will then be introduced to sewing with a machine which, includes learning all the parts, how to thread, spool thread, and the different types of stitches machines offer in sewing. Near the end of the course we will collaborate as a group completing a sewing project for charity in addition to the individual craft sewing.

Lauren Fraser

I’m currently a stay-at-home mom/photographer, been married over 15 years and have two teenage boys. I’m an avid reader and read on average 80-100 books a year. I love reading with new readers and opening their eyes to the adventures and new worlds that each book contains.

I’ve loved photography since I was a teenager and decided to pursue it professionally in 2011 starting my company, Foreverisours Photography. I’ve been making my kids yearbooks every year through Treering since 2015 and am excited to work with the students on this project.

Aidan Gilmore

I am a seasoned public speaking Coach specializing in growing students confidence through interactive techniques while making public speaking an empowering experience. I have been teaching public speaking for 8 years to students across San Diego, San Jose, and Dallas.

I was 10 years old when I completed my first public speaking class. I became fascinated that basic communication was the biggest fear in our country. Once I started competing on a national level, I was a finalist at regional and national tournaments including advancing to the Team Policy Debate final round two years in a row at the National Invitation Tournament of Champions.

Greg Lane Gynmastics

Hi there, I am coach Greg, hoping to meet all of the Legacy families. First of all, and most importantly, I'm extremely happy to have the opportunity to help equip and empower your children to grow into their God-given calling. There's not much that is better than being just a small part of the smiles on all the children's faces. I feel overly blessed to serve at Legacy among the caring and loving staff... Gymnastics has been a large part of preparing me for who I have become today. I started this amazing sport a little before the ripe old age of three. I've been told that letting me do gymnastics literally saved everyone in my family and anyone in my path. I was (infinity times two) hyperactive!!! Gymnastics was my outlet to control all that crazy energy always exploding out of me. Competing at the highest level of men's gymnastics was very rewarding. Coaching gymnastics now for over a half a century has been fun and challenging, more than anyone could ever imagine. Let's lay a great foundation through the most fun sport ever! Big-air kiteboarding is my favorite hobby. Most important thing about me is, I'm bananas for JESUS!!!

Deven Herman

My name is Deven Herman, and I bring over 18 years’ experience in working with large groups of kids to
create a fun, dynamic, safe setting. I’ve been a PE Teacher for 13 of those years working at a private

KIDS Ministry Director and have planned and implemented numerous Kids events that our families and
children love! I am passionate about sports and leading a healthy lifestyle. My goal is to keep all kids
moving, participating and sweaty in a fun, engaging way. I am a huge proponent on sportsmanship
which will be a concept weaved into every PE class. My classes will be a safe space for kids of all ages
and abilities to come and build some new skills and engage positively with their peers.
My husband and I have been married for 18 years and we have two boys, 9 & 14 and live in Encinitas.
Some fun facts about me is that my favorite food is macaroni and cheese, I pole vaulted in college, and I
LOVE to mow lawns. My favorite football team is the Buffalo Bills, and many years ago I tried out for
Survivor by eating a whole cup of worms and bugs, but I never received a call back! Oh yea, we have 3
cats, please don’t judge me…… I’m passionate about PE and look forward to meeting you and your child
as we embark on an amazing year together!

Mrs. Monica Itamura

Hello Legacy Families!

My name is Monica Itamura and I am so excited to partner with you in your homeschool journey. I am looking forward to offering courses in English, Literature, History, Government, Debate and Basketball. A little bit about me…

Growing up I was a reader. Big time. At family events, myself and my twin sister would be in a comfy chair somewhere reading. I would hide books in the bathroom and sneak away during chores to read until I heard voices in the house start to wonder where I was. I LOVE reading! My husband once said that he preferred an actual sunset to a description of one in a book. I explained to him that for me a well written passage or captivating story line in my favorite books WAS the sunset! My never ending pursuit will be to find ways to pass on that love of reading to my students.

When I went to college at University of California, Davis, I was accepted as pre-med in Physiology. With my love of basketball and sports, I thought I wanted to be a physical therapist. I quickly realized after a couple quarters that I didn’t love calculus, chemistry and all the requirements for physiology as a major enough to continue.

It took a year or so of exploring different courses to discover that I really enjoyed history, specifically 1910-present US History. I took a very diverse selection of classes and ended up with a BA in US History 1910-present with a secondary emphasis of European History for the same time period and a minor in African and African American Studies. Some of my favorite classes were in History, Sociology, Political Science and Law.

I also have a very long love and history with the sport of basketball. I love basketball! It was my favorite sport. I made the 7th grade team as a 6th grader with a broken arm. I made the varsity team as a sophomore. I was a referee for a number of years and I coached basketball for over 15 years. I’ve coached rec leagues, AAU teams and high school teams - from 3rd/4th grade teams to high school. For the last 13 years since my son was born, I’ve been on a break from coaching travel AAU and high school teams and am so excited to get back into the sport here at Legacy!

I am married to my husband Matt, have two step daughters (Ann Marie & Claire), one son (Nikko), a black lab (Hunter), a Siberian cat (Fluffy) and some fish. I was born in Southern California, lived in the Santa Barbara area until age 5, moved to Montana for a couple years until 2nd grade and then ended up with truly growing up in the Apple Hill/Placerville area between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe. I graduated from University of California, Davis. Worked for over 15 years in corporate America for companies like Oracle, Gap Inc and SunGard. Had my son when we lived in Chico, CA. Started a small business when my son was under 1 year old. I ran my seasonal kid’s consignment sale, Sweet Repeats, in Chico for 10 years until the back to back blows of the Paradise Camp Fire (100’s of my families lost their homes and left the area) and then Covid became too much to overcome. I ran that business from Chico, then during a move to Arkansas for 2 years and finally from San Diego - traveling every six months to go run the big event. My husband’s job in sales has moved us around the country, finally planting us in San Diego County since 2015 - living out in the San Pasqual Valley near the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.

One of my passions has always been working with and hanging out with kids. Between being an art docent and regular volunteer at my son’s former public school and coaching various teams, it always comes back to the kids. Our older ones, especially, have a lot to say, are observing the world around them and have a lot of opinions. I love building connections with them as they grow into being more active participants in society and having their voices heard.

I am filled with gratitude that God has led me to this amazing role as a partner with you in teaching your kids!

We look forward to meeting you and helping you reach your goals!

Laura Lisak

For more than fifteen years I have worked in public education.  I have taught first, second and third grade, as well as, special education.  In addition to classroom teaching experience, I have had the opportunity to be a mentor teacher for students completing their bachelor's degree. My experience in the classroom has allowed me to work with children from varying ability levels, cultures and backgrounds.  This has allowed me to develop a wide array of skills to meet the needs of a diverse group of students.

Whether working with large groups or individual students, I value a hands-on approach to education where the students are interacting with their learning, when possible. Hands on learning allows the student to be actively engaged in their education.  From my observation of students over the years, the more engaged students are in their learning the more information they retain.

My passion lies in early literacy and laying the groundwork for students to develop into proficient readers and thinkers.  Literacy is the basis for all academics.  Developing strong early literacy skills helps remove academic hurdles in other subject areas in the future.

This is my second-year homeschooling, and I am a wife and mom of two, Campbell - 9 and Madelyn - 7.

I spent 7 years working at SeaWorld, 5 of those working in the Education Department focused on teaching kids and adults about marine life.   During my time there, I worked closely with the animal care and training staff, educated large groups of adults and children at various animal exhibits throughout the park, provided behind the scenes in-depth tours, and taught classroom dissection lessons.  This wide variety of activities has provided me with in-depth knowledge of the care and rescue/ rehabilitation of marine animals. I am passionate about marine life and am so excited to open the eyes and hearts of your kids to ensure they have a better understanding and knowledge of marine life through this amazing program.

Wendy Pendergrass

Hello! I’m Wendy and am excited to share my passion for music with your kiddos.  I believe we are all born to sing and make music.  My philosophy is that kids need lots of fun and joyful exposure to music at a young age.  FUN first!! Lots of games, smiles, singing and laughter! That is what I do! True learning takes place without kids even knowing it. I have a heart to build children up in their musical talents and in all aspects of their life!  I’m also obsessed with all the research on how learning music has many amazing impacts on the developing brain. I think it is one of the best ways to improve connections between the right and left hemispheres of the brain, which ends up improving so many academic subjects and reasoning skills.

I grew up right down the street from the Meadowlark Church. I did many years of gymnastics and piano lessons in my youth.  I have been married to a wonderful guy, Dave, for 19 years, who is the magic behind the scenes in anything I do.  I have 4 children, ages 17, 14, 9, and 7. They are the pride and joy of my life! I have had many opportunities to sing and perform with them, which I have treasured!  I have been a homeschool mom for 4 years, but have always dabbled with different charter schools and more creative forms of education. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science from BYU. Over the past 17 years  I have taught church choir, show choir, individual piano, group piano, preschool music classes, and children’s musical theater. I have worked for Giacoletti Music Center, the City of San Marcos, and Sound System Kids.  I have served as Chair of the Board for 10 years for Sound System Kids, a non-profit children’s music company that  promotes more music opportunities for all children in the community.  I also enjoy singing and performing locally in community theater.  My first leading role was Maria in Sound of Music at the Star Theatre in 2011, which launched me into many wonderful roles. Some of my favorite roles were The Cat in Seussical the Musical at the CCAE in 2016 and Miss Honey in Matilda the Musical at the Lyceum Theater in 2019. I aspire to be as daring as Maria, as silly as The Cat, and as kind as Miss Honey while I am teaching. Thank you for trusting me with your precious little ones!

Marcella Pyles

My name is Marcella Pyles and I am a wife and mother to three beautiful children. My family has a passion for the outdoors, camping and spending time together. We enjoy spending our free time in the desert going off roading. My 9 year old son Rayden has developed a love for riding dirt bikes and his little brother Paxton is sure to follow. Our family also enjoys volunteering within the community, through Cub Scouts and our church.

I have always had a love for science. I worked in the medical field for the past 10 years as a Registered Medical Assistant. One of my primary roles in the office, was to provide training to students and new hires. I found that I truly have a love for pouring my skills and knowledge into others. I look forward to creating fun, exciting, hands-on activities for your children, to help them develop a passion for learning and science!

Kirsten Risko

Hello families!

I’m Kirsten, a homeschool mom to four wild and free little souls ages 8,8,5, &2!  :)

My husband and I are both originally from the PNW, but have made North County our home since we married in 2012. We recently relocated to Fallbrook and we are loving our slower country life on five acres! I have a passion for teaching my kids through nature and practical daily life, & my biggest hope is for them to find and share the love of Jesus in all we do.

I have a strong background in English and Science, but after I got married I did an about-face and went back to school to study American Sign Language. I have many friends and family in the Deaf community and I fell in love with the language and the people who were sharing it with me. In 2013, with 1 year old twins, I graduated with my degree as an ASL interpreter from Palomar College. I’m so excited to partner with Legacy and your families to create a fun and interactive experience for your children. In my classroom you’ll find me always striving to teach your kids to become life-long learners. You’ll find us in our seats, outside, in groups, with a special guest, and always always laughing. Bringing joy to our learning and loving on these precious kids fills my soul, so thank you for lending them to me for a short time :)

Abby Witzmann

Welcome! I am Abby Witzmann and I am so thrilled to have you in my class this year. I was born and raised in Encinitas and have a heart for my community and its people. Coming from a family of 7, I am no stranger to adaptability. With that being said, I find educational understanding is not a one size fits all experience. I am eager to learn what works for you and your family to guarantee that your child is cared for. My aim is to ensure your child feels understood, valued and equipped with the necessary tools to cultivate success and confidence.

I want this experience to be collaborative and functional. I am open to hearing your thoughts and suggestions as we navigate this upcoming school year. I look forward to fostering a healthy learning environment to ensure your child’s success.
